Auto Body Shop Spends $20,000 To Clean Up A Malware Attack

Without warning, a Trojan Horse Program was downloaded to their server, which in turn downloaded a virus that started infecting files. It then emailed itself to all of the other branches, infecting the files there as well.
This virus corrupted their data, impaired their customer management system, and after mailing itself to the other branches, immediately brought down their Exchange server (no e-mail could come in or go out). Preventing this disaster would have only cost them 1/25th of the cost (about $800 per month) AND they would have experienced better performance and fewer problems with their network.
Instead, they were forced to spend a whopping $20,000 to remove the virus and restore their network, and that only got them back up and running. Their systems were still not optimized, secured, and updated as they should be.
Two Failed Hard Drives Costs Health Products Company $40,000 and 9 Days of Downtime
The back office of a health products company had two hard drives fail at the same time causing them to lose a large number of critical company files and data. Home Remodeling Company Loses All Client, Tax, and Accounting Data, Even though Systems Were Originally In Place To Prevent It
A home remodeling company originally planned ahead and invested in systems to prevent data loss by installing a tape backup system and having redundant mirrored hard drives in their server.
Unfortunately, in the confusion of moving their operations out of state, personnel changed dramatically and no one was ever assigned to check the backups. After having relocated their server, the backup worked correctly for a few weeks, then began failing. At around the same time (no one knows exactly when), one of the redundant hard drives crashed.
